Course Design: Student centered with teacher as facilitator and coach. Students will take a more active role in their learning via "Students As Teacher" approach.
*Independent learning through Spanishdict.com and Studyspanish.com via the internet.
Goals: To create independent, lifelong learners of Spanish via student centered activities. To provide sound fundamentals and a basis to Spanish II and III learners that can be instantly applicable and longitudinally viable.

Late Assignments: Assignments due the day of your absence are due the next class meeting day. Late penalties accrue at 10% per day. No late assignments accepted after the end of each quarter. Grade book closed the Friday before finals each semester. No late assignments accepted during finals week.
Student work: I will have 2 files for student work, one live and one dead. I will keep all student work for students to access. All files will be emptied after each quarter.
Grading Policy: All items will be scored as total points, with the exception of Semester and Final comprehensive exams.
Homework: Studyspanish.com assignments are designed to be finished in computer lab. If not, they become homework. Internet assignments are due the day following their assignment. All other work is to be finished in class by class design.

Notebook= Required. This will serve as a daily reference and as the study guide for the semester final. Notebook quizzes will be given.

Spanish Review Boot camp - Beginning of School to Friday before Labor Day.
Students will review and practice vowel and
consonant pronunciations, simple conversational starters, interrogative,numbers, prepositions,
er, ir and ar verbs, adjective agreement, demonstrative adjective, personal pronouns et.
August; Review of numbers and counting, pronunciation vowels and consonant, greetings and goodbyes. Expressing wants, needs ,and haves, likes (negation with wants needs and haves) in present (Necesitar, querer and tener), Subject pronouns, Tú y usted, ustedes and vosotros
September: Ch. 1 Functions: Introductions, Descriptions of People, Talking about what you and others do, expressing likes and dislikes.
October: Ch. 2 Functions: Expressing feelings, Making and responding to expressions, saying if something has been already been done, Asking for and offering help, describing your city or town.
November: Ch. 3 Functions: Talking about your daily routine, responsibilities, complaining, talking about hobbies and pastimes, Saying how long something has been going on.
December- Comprehensive tie down of Semester 1 learning targets.
Semester 2
January: Ch. 4 Functions: Asking for and giving opinions, giving advice, talking about things and people you know, making comparisons, making plans.
February: Ch. 5 Functions: Talking about staying health and fit, Telling someone what to do and not to do, giving explanations
March : Ch. 6 Functions: Asking for and giving info, relating a series of events, ordering in a restaurant
April: Ch. 7 Functions: Talking about what you used to do, Saying what you used to like and dislike, describing what people and things where like, using comparisons to describe people.

September: Ch. 1 Functions: Expressing interest, indifference and displeasure, asking for information, describing yourself and others. Grammar- Intro to verbs in the infinitive, present tense, stem changers, preterit tense, adjectives, saber v conocer.
October: Ch. 2 Functions: Asking for and giving advice, talking about taking care of yourself.
November: Ch. 3 Functions: Talking about what has happened, expressing and supporting a point of view, using conversational fillers, talking about future events, talking about responsibilities.
December: Comprehensive tie down of Semester 1 Learning Targets.
Semester 2
January: Ch. 4 Functions: Talking about how food tastes, talking about unintentional events, asking for help and requesting favors.
February: Ch. 5 Functions : Expressing qualified agreement and disagreement, reporting what others say and think, talking about hopes and wishes.
March: Continuation of Chapter 5 with added emphasis on Subjunctive mood.
April: Ch. 6 Introducing and changing a topic of conversation, expressing what needs to be done, expressing an opinion, making suggestions recommendations, turning down an invitation.
